Ring of poison immunity: useless effects

Post by reizy »

It has 3 immunes:
1) Weak Poison - it's OK
2) Weak irdegh poison - void effect with no monsters use it.
3) Blood poisoning - no monsters use it.

May be it should be replaced with i.e. common "irdegh poison"? Or just remove useless ones.

Weak irdegh poison isn't caused by a monster attack, but the player can be affected by it a different way.
The merchant Teksin sells an elixir which clears all normal irdegh poison, but then infects the player with weak irdegh poison. Irdegh poison stacks, so if you're unlucky, you can wind up being very highly poisoned, like x12 or more. The idea is that you can drink the elixir to convert a large stack of normal irdegh poison into weak irdegh poison, then use the ring to cure the weak irdegh poison as well.

Admittedly, this is a pretty niche use, though. I've never played a character that had low enough BC and HP to have trouble with irdegh, but also high enough gold to afford the immunity ring and a stash of elixirs to make this strategy work. I suppose it could play a role if you're doing a glass cannon build on permadeath and you want to mitigate the risk of unlucky death by poisoning?
I think you're right that the player cannot be affected by blood poisoning at this time, though. But my preferred "fix" for this issue is to introduce a new scary monster.

Weak irdegh poison also stacks. Unless you drink two or more of the potions that will never happen though. The main thing is that Weak irdegh poison only has an effect every full round, which is 25 seconds. Irdegh poison has an effect every round, which is 6 seconds. So the elixir spreads out the poisoning over a much longer time, allowing something else (e.g. sustenance) to counter it.
Given the cost, IMO the ring should make you immune to all poison. So Irdegh poison, Venom, and Spore poisoning should be added to the ring. Not food poisoning though. That would make it too easy to wear the ring, eat the food, take the ring off.

+1. Or less cost with only Weak Poison immunity.

It was added as an item for those with more gold than they know what to do with. So better stats I think, rather than lower price.
