Controller support

Post by StarkRG »

Recently installed this on the Ouya. Due to the way the game has been written it is difficult to use the controller to play. Specifically the attack functionality requires the use of the touchpad which is clunky to say the least.

Implementig controller support simply requires the use of these classes: InputDevice and MotionEvent

There isn't anything special about the Ouya controllers that make it different from regular android devices.

Retail OUYA spec looks pretty decent for only the price of $100. Most Smartphones stack up with that spec, but you spend much more. Aside from not-great compatibility with AT, how do you find it otherwise?

I also got a chance to test out MOGA a few times at EB Games Expo and Penny Arcade Expo - that's probably the route I'm going to take - my hand gets a be sore from the 3 hours of AT each day I do on my phone (using touch screen movement rather than virtual control pad), so and external controller for my existing phone would be a big win.

You know, if I did any gaming on my phone besides AT and the occasional bit of godville that MOGA device would look pretty intriguing. As it stands though I'd probably get more use out of an OUYA. Oh well, I'm still looking forward to when I can finally upgrade my phone early next year. My current Samsung Galaxy SII is a bit dated by now :(

That's true. I'm actually thinking of just getting an OUYA as an alternative to an Apple TV. No, I don't have an Apple TV, but I like the concept of having a light-weight (and small) device on the big screen in my lounge room that can stream media from my NAS via DLNA protocol. I currently have Mac Mini (Dual Core gen) on my big screen (but I wiped it an did a native install of Win7, no BootCamp).

So anyway, OUYA, great value for the tech spec you get. Even if you only want to experiment with it. Hmmm, would be pretty cool to do like 32 of them, put a Linux distro on them, rack them and then make a small Beowulf cluster.
