I don't think you don't like using candles or the electric lightbulb, just because someone else used it first. The names I suggest are the easy lazy solution. If you can innovate, in a way that you won't waste your energy, i'm with you 100%

@Tomcat, some of the existing items already follow a 'rule' and others have names that fit (skullcrusher, gutspliter comes in mind)

My main concern are some 2h swords wich give awkword stats (rusty sword makes me dizzy?) and some armor with special names but no stats (bloody gloves? plain def? why bloody?)

There's a few adjectives they get reused with the same meaning .... Fine, Villain's ... but generally names are either plain descriptions our unique names.

Diablo generates thousands of random bits of gear with special abilities, so a system is needed. Here there are far fewer (so far), and I'm not sure it's necessary.

There are many similar items that follow a rule or escalate. Bar brawler-Tavern brawler-Villain. Iron-fine iron. Steel-Balanced steel. Broadswords all with 6 AP.

I dont know, maybe im immagining patterns, bring the number 23.

Off topic:
Diablo has a really simple pattern, irrelevant with the volume of the gear list.
(Weapon type. lvlX. affixes 1a-9f. rng.)
The vast number of items, is created due to lvls and rng in the affixes number and magnitude.

That would be like saying i won't play Andor's trail because Rogue Style RPGs have already been created.

I'm all for being lazy at times, but I think we should take this opportunity to really create a unique environment for the players.

Innovation will hook more players.

Sorry Pyrizzle, but instead of vaguely discussing the border between innovation and being a copycat (you sound like the European who does not want to learn from China's success), discuss the ideas mentioned here.

A big part of this idea resembles the concept of DPR (damage per round), including the logic and balance reasons behind it.
Using a certain string of logic to attribute powers to all the different items is not bad. If you don't feel this should resemble a formula, at least have some story or logic behind the equipment. And what is exactly innovative about 'rusty', 'fine', 'heavy', 'bloody' and such? Like the crosses used subconsciously as the way to mark a grave (yes, our religious history of the USA and Europe sits way deeper buried in our mass subconsciousness than 99% of us realizes), most of the game isn't new at all. There is no need to either, because rogue RPGs, as you stated, is a typeof computer game we all love :-)

What is new, is the open innovation, fueled by ideas and visions of its players on a forum. Support this like you always do!

what is it from: sap of the charwood tree
who made it: Lowyna's special brew
who uses it: woodcutter axe
who did it belong to: Irogotu's necklace
where was it made: Remgard shield
where was it used:
when was it made: ancient scroll
when was it used:
how is it made: forged dagger
how is it used: two-handed sword
...

I would like systems of naming and cascading modifiers; different regions in AT, different naming conventions, reflecting the region and their culture. For example: some without an apparent system, Vilegard, some with a strict system, Feygard.

(There are limited tiles available, this includes grave marks; to exclude tiles limits visual appeal.)
