I was wondering about this and how you will go about finding the potion guy do you still get the password even though you helped the guards?

But ive read people saying they have talked to the thieves guild supplier.
And surely there is better gear than what is in fallhaven and vilegard, isnt there?

Hmm, I don't know where to put spoiler tags as it seems like this whole topic could be considered a spoiler in a certain sense. Anyway, I've been pretty convinced for a while now that, as the game stands right now (0.6.8),

the player's handling of this quest has almost no effect. That is, even though the quest is considered complete, the prisoner never escapes (I guess because time never passes and it never becomes night?).

That being said, I'm guessing that with a lot of new content in the upcoming release, there may be consequences to this decision and others down the road.

Speculation:

Once more cities are created, both this quest and how the player deals with the guard outside the Foaming Flask may open or close dialogue paths or sidequests with, say, the Feyguard city guard?

Fett2oo5 and mdmedlin, in response to your questions:

As of now, it doesn't seem to affect your standing with the Thieves' Guild one way or the other. You don't even have to do it at all! Farrik is the brother of Umar, and can be found in the Thieves' Guild just below the female thief / pickpocket.
