Come on, guys! If you lived in India and had never heard of Groundhog Day, would the previous explanation really have left you any the wiser? I thought a real explanation of one of our most-minor holidays was in order for mirajp1, and any other non-US residents who might be wondering about such a strangely-named "holiday."

I know that. Why else would I have brought up that tongue-twister again? The whole idea of Groundhog Day is, after all, rather silly, though not as silly as the tongue-twister. But that does not mean that, once the subject has been raised, a real explanation of our bit of national silliness should not be given. It is most definitely not a major holiday, but the weathermen on the tv news shows mention it every year and some other zoos around the US hold their own groundhog-emergence events, hoping to attract more paying visitors. For most people, Groundhog Day passes mainly unnoticed. By February, people are really looking forward to spring, so they are grasping at straws for anything to foster the hope of an early spring. They didn't have Andor's Trail to help make the time go faster.
